The crumbling stone circle near Seaton is one of those archaeological sites that catches you off guard - not because it's grand, but because it's genuinely ancient and standing right here in Aberdeen City's quieter corners. There's four recumbent slabs and a scatter of uprights marking what was once a proper ceremonial space, probably Neolithic or Bronze Age, though the exact details remain fuzzy even for the experts.

This isn't a polished visitor experience. There's no visitor centre, no car park, no plaques explaining what you're looking at. You find it, stand among the stones, and let your mind do the work. That's either brilliant or frustrating depending on your mood. History buffs will get something out of it - the recumbent stone circles are distinctly Scottish, and seeing one standing (albeit weathered) connects you to something genuinely old. Kids might manage ten minutes before asking what's for lunch.

Free, obviously. No opening hours to speak of - it's out there whenever you fancy visiting. Give it an hour if you're combining it with a walk around Seaton, or just pop in for fifteen minutes on your way elsewhere. Worth a detour if you're staying at Seaview Caravan Park (3.2 miles away) and fancy something different from the usual park activities. On a grey Aberdeen afternoon with the wind coming in off the coast, these stones feel properly atmospheric rather than just old rocks.
