The walk through Alexander Hamilton Memorial Park starts gently enough, but the Clyde Valley views that open up halfway through are genuinely worth the effort. You're looking at a proper nature reserve on the outskirts of Lanark, where the landscape shifts between woodland and open grassland without ever feeling manicured or overdone.

It's the kind of place that rewards a slow morning rather than a quick tick-box visit. Bird watchers will find genuine interest here, especially in spring. Families with younger kids might struggle with the terrain in places - it's not a flat loop, and muddy patches linger long after rain. Serious walkers, though, will appreciate the mix of woodland trails and open moorland. Allow a good hour and a half minimum if you want to actually see what the park has to offer rather than just crash through it.

The reserve works well as part of a broader Lanark exploration. You could easily pair it with a longer South Lanarkshire walking route. If you're staying at Ecosse Glamping just down the road, it's an excellent morning activity before heading back for a late breakfast.

One thing worth knowing: the park can feel genuinely wild and exposed on windy days, and the paths aren't always obvious. Bring a map or download offline directions before you go. The reward is that you'll see far fewer people than you'd expect for somewhere this close to a town.
