It's the kind of place you stumble upon because you're staying nearby rather than drive across the county for, though it's well worth an hour or two. Best visited early morning or weekday afternoons when the school runs aren't happening. The trails are straightforward - no scrambling required - so families can manage it easily, and the whole thing feels refreshingly ungoverned compared to the more manicured country estates. If you're based at Six Mile Water or Blair's Castlewood - both within walking distance - this becomes your morning constitutional. Free to access and open all hours as far as anyone can tell.
