Allt Ffynnon-ffwibert

The forest at Allt Ffynnon-ffwibert sits just outside Whitland in Carmarthenshire, and it's the sort of place that rewards a bit of effort to find. You're looking at proper Welsh woodland here - dense enough to feel like you've actually left civilisation, but accessible enough that you won't need rock climbing gear to explore it.

The main draw is the walking. It's ideal territory for families who want their children to burn off energy without the crowds you'd get at a managed tourist attraction, and for walkers seeking something quieter than the honeypot routes in the Brecon Beacons.

We'd recommend allowing at least two hours if you want to properly explore without rushing. Go in spring or early autumn - summer can be muggy and packed with flies, and winter's muddy as hell. The forest is free to roam, which is one of its best features.
