Alresford Pond

Walk into Alresford and you'll stumble onto this proper focal point of the village - a sizeable pond that's been there for centuries, right in the heart of town. It's the kind of place locals genuinely use, not just tourists passing through. You get a decent walk around it, ducks doing their thing, and on a decent day the reflections are lovely. The water's lined with trees, so there's actual shade if you need it.

Historically minded folk will appreciate that this was dug out deliberately to power the old textile mills - it's not just decorative. The setting tells you something real about how Hampshire market towns worked. Kids will be occupied feeding ducks for a bit, though it's not a full afternoon's entertainment on its own.

It's free to have a wander, takes maybe thirty minutes to loop round properly without rushing. Best visited when the light's decent - early morning or late afternoon beats midday. The spot works well as a break if you're staying at nearby caravan parks like The Spinney (less than a mile away) or Hampshire Hills (just over two miles). Both are excellent bases if you're spending a week in the area. You could easily combine this with a stroll round Alresford's Georgian high street - there are proper independent shops and a few decent pubs nearby. It's not dramatic or Instagram-ready, but it's the genuine heart of a working English village and worth an hour of your time.
