About Am Binnein
This is a walker's mountain rather than a tourist spot. There's no visitor centre, no café halfway up, no getting there by chairlift. You start from the road near Salen and just go. The path is reasonably well-trodden but steeper than it looks from below, with loose scree on the final pitch that keeps you honest. Most people allow three to four hours round-trip, which is realistic if you want time at the summit to actually enjoy it rather than snap a photo and bail.
It suits anyone who's comfortable on a hill and doesn't mind a bit of scrambling. Families with older kids will manage fine; younger ones will struggle with the final section. The real value is combining this with a wider Mull circuit - you're well-positioned to base yourself at Port nan Gael Campsite or Island Pods and tackle Ben More or the coastal paths the same weekend. On a clear day, you get Iceland-grade views. On a damp one, you're basically climbing through cloud. That's mountain life on Mull.
