Amble Little Shore

The walk down to Amble's Little Shore takes about five minutes from the main car park, and honestly, it's worth every step. You're heading towards a proper working fishing village - the kind where boats still land their catch and the locals move at their own pace, unrushed.

Little Shore itself is a small, sheltered cove tucked away from the main drag. The beach is pebbled rather than sandy, but that's precisely what gives it character. At high tide it nearly disappears; at low tide you get exposed rock pools and that wonderfully austere Northumberland coastline feel. The light here is particular - especially in late afternoon when the stone buildings of the village glow amber.

This isn't a destination unto itself. You come here as part of a proper coastal walk - the stretch between Amble and Warkworth is excellent - or you anchor it as a peaceful hour during a wider Northumberland trip. Families with younger kids will manage the cove fine, though the pebbles aren't ideal for sandcastle operations. Photographers and walkers get the most out of it.

Amble itself, just beyond Alnwick, is only ten minutes' drive from the charming Woodland Chase Glamping, making it easy to factor into a coastal park break. Bring proper shoes - the stones shift underfoot - and check the tide before you go. Arrive early to catch the light without the handful of other visitors.
