Anglers Country Park

The lake at Anglers Country Park sits on the outskirts of Wakefield like a proper local secret - the sort of place where you'll see more fishing rods than selfie sticks. It's a working fishery, so don't expect manicured gardens or themed attractions. What you get instead is a genuinely quiet spot to walk the perimeter, watch the water, and let the kids burn off energy without needing to plan three hours around it.

The park spreads across decent acreage with woodland paths and open areas where anglers set up for the day. If you're not fishing yourself, it's the kind of place where a forty-minute stroll works perfectly - long enough to feel like you've done something, short enough that nobody complains. The water's nice to look at, especially if the light's good, and there's a real sense of peace about the place that Wakefield town centre doesn't offer.

It works well as a morning or afternoon break if you're staying at one of the nearby caravan sites - Nostell Priory Holiday Park is barely two miles away, and Broadlands Farm just three and a half. Neither visit will exhaust you, which is fine. Sometimes a park is just somewhere pleasant to be, not somewhere you need to tick off a list. Families with younger children will find it easy enough, though there's not much here to hold their attention for long if they're not keen on open spaces and water.
