Ardhuncart Hill

The walk up Ardhuncart Hill is straightforward enough, but the effort pays off properly. It's a modest hill by Aberdeenshire standards - nothing that'll leave you gasping - yet the views across Speyside and towards the Cairngorms are genuinely worth the leg work. The summit's bare and windswept, which means visibility here tends to be sharp on clear days. You'll spot the patchwork of farmland rolling out below, and if you time it right, the light catches the distant mountains beautifully.

This isn't a destination that'll chew up half your day. Allow ninety minutes there and back if you're moving at a decent pace, maybe two hours if you're stopping to look around properly. Walkers who like their routes uncomplicated will appreciate it - no scrambling, no tricky navigation. Families with children aged eight or nine upwards would do fine here, though younger legs might find it a bit of a drag.

Ardhuncart sits close enough to Bithnie that you could combine it with a stay at Haughton Holiday Park, just six miles away. The park itself rates well, so you'd have a solid base for exploring the area. It's the sort of hill that fills an afternoon nicely - good for clearing your head without requiring any special kit or experience. The drive to get there is pleasant enough through proper rural Aberdeenshire, all quiet roads and farmland.
