The paths here aren't manicured or waymarked - this is woodland as nature intended, with fallen logs creating natural obstacles and birdsong your only soundtrack.

Dog walkers absolutely love this place. The lack of formal boundaries means your four-legged friend can really stretch their legs, though you'll want to keep an eye on them during nesting season. Families with older children who enjoy a bit of adventure will find plenty to explore, but pushchairs are definitely out of the question on these uneven forest floors.

What strikes you most is the quiet. Despite being a stone's throw from Worcester's suburbs, Arle Covert feels wonderfully remote. The canopy filters sunlight into dancing patterns, and in autumn the carpet of leaves makes every footstep satisfying. Allow a good hour for a proper wander, longer if you're the type to stop and identify every bird call.

Staying at nearby Croft Farm Water Park or Bredon View Holiday Park puts you within easy reach for an early morning walk when the wood is at its most atmospheric. Just remember to wear proper boots - this isn't a place for Sunday best shoes.
