Auchlinsky Hill

The walk up Auchlinsky Hill from Dollar takes about forty minutes if you're not dawdling, and you'll emerge at a viewpoint that genuinely rewards the effort. It's not a dramatic peak - nothing like the Cairngorms - but from the top you get proper views across the Forth Valley towards the Pentland Hills, and on a clear day you can pick out Edinburgh in the distance.

This is a straightforward leg-stretcher for anyone staying in the area, particularly useful if you're based at one of the nearby glamping sites like Greenhill Farm or Meadow View Camping and Glamping. The path is well-trodden and manageable for families with older kids, though younger ones might find the steady climb tedious. Allow two to three hours for the round trip including a sit-down at the top.

The real appeal here is that it's accessible without needing proper hillwalking kit. Wear decent shoes and bring a waterproof - this is Fife, after all - and you'll be fine. The hill itself is free to walk, no gates or admission fees. Best visited on a windless day when the views actually open up; I went during a gale and spent most of my time just trying not to get blown backwards.
