Bangor Promenade

The walk along Bangor Promenade is one of those stretches where you can properly clear your head. It's a nature reserve that runs along the Menai Strait, offering views across to Snowdonia on a clear day - and when the weather plays ball, it's genuinely impressive. The path itself is easy going, flat mostly, with the water on one side and grassland on the other. You'll spot waders and wildfowl if you're patient, especially around dawn or dusk.

It works best for families who don't mind a gentle stroll without major dramatics - no dramatic cliffs or rare bird hides, just a proper walk where kids can run about and you can breathe. Allow an hour to ninety minutes if you want to do it justice without rushing. There's no entrance fee that I'm aware of, and you can access it free from Beaumaris, which sits just across the water.

What makes it worthwhile is the combination of accessibility and space. You're not fighting crowds, and the views of the strait never get tired. It's the sort of place that slots nicely into a caravan holiday based at one of the nearby parks - Kingsbridge or Wonderfully Wild are within easy reach if you're pitched up in the area. Worth doing, especially if you're staying a few nights on Anglesey and want a low-key morning out.
