Bath City Farm

The moment you walk through the gates at Bath City Farm, you're worlds away from the Georgian terraces just down the road in Bath. This working farm sits right on the edge of the city and genuinely surprises first-timers with how proper it feels - chickens pecking about, vegetable beds in various states of productivity, and actual farm work happening rather than a polished theme-park version of farming.

It's run by volunteers and the whole operation has that authentic, slightly ramshackle charm of something that's been built by people who actually care about the land. You'll find seasonal vegetables being grown, animals to interact with, and often workshops running on composting, beekeeping, or sustainable living. The farm shop sells whatever's been harvested that week, which means sometimes there's plenty and other times less so - that's real farming.

Families with younger kids will get a solid hour here, especially if there's anything going on. Older children and adults interested in how food actually grows will find it worthwhile. It's free to wander the grounds, though donations are suggested and workshops usually cost a few quid.

If you're staying at Bath Mill Lodge Retreat just down the road, this makes an excellent half-morning outing before heading into Bath proper. CAMPWELL FARM is further out but still within reasonable reach if you want to combine two farm visits. Go midweek if you can - weekends get busier and the volunteers are stretched thinner.
