Batsford Arboretum and Garden Centre

The drive up to Batsford feels properly rural - you wind through Cotswold lanes and suddenly there's a sprawling collection of trees and specimen plants that catches you off guard. It's part arboretum, part garden centre, and honestly, it works better as both than either would alone.

What you actually get is woodland walks threading through acres of mature trees - oaks, maples, conifers - the sort of place where you can spend two hours wandering without it feeling forced. The garden centre side means there are actual plants for sale, ponds with working fountains, and enough greenery to make you feel like you've properly escaped rather than just visited a tourist trap. On a decent day the views open up across the Cotswolds, which is the real draw.

Walkers will get the most from this. Families with younger kids might find an hour enough before boredom sets in, though if your lot are into climbing on things and spotting birds, double that estimate. History types will appreciate the mature specimens - some of these trees have been here decades. Skip it in November when everything's muddy and the trees are bare; spring through September is the sweet spot.

It sits nicely with a Cotswold park holiday - you're barely more than a mile from Moreton-in-Marsh, so the Moreton-in-Marsh Experience Freedom Glamping site makes a solid base for exploring both this and the wider area.
