Richard III died here on 22 August 1485, and it changed England forever. The Battle of Bosworth Field was the decisive clash that ended the Wars of the Roses and put Henry VII on the throne - a moment that genuinely mattered, not just medieval pageantry. You walk the actual ground where thousands fought, and there's something properly moving about that, even if the battlefield itself looks like any other Leicestershire field.

The site has interpretation boards and walking trails that take you through the key positions - the marshes that trapped Richard's cavalry, the ridge where Henry's forces held firm. It's free to wander, which is excellent, and you can cover it in an hour if you're brisk or two hours if you want to absorb the detail. The nearest visitor facilities are in Nuneaton, about four miles away, so go prepared.

History enthusiasts will get the most from this. Families with younger kids might find it a bit abstract - there's no massive visitor centre or reconstructions, just landscape and information boards. That's actually its strength: you're reading the terrain like a map, imagining the chaos. Walkers will love it too, particularly if you're combining it with a longer circuit around the area.

Stay at Bosworth Lakeside Lodges or Lime Tree Caravan Park nearby, both within three miles, and you've got a proper base for exploring Leicestershire's history. Worth the detour if you're interested in Tudor England and don't mind a bit of legwork to earn your understanding.
