Beacon Country Park

The Beacon sits on high ground near Skelmersdale, giving you proper views across Lancashire once you've made the walk up. It's not a massive attraction - more a local spot where people come to stretch their legs and get a bit of perspective. The hill itself is the draw, really. On a clear day you can see for miles, which makes the climb feel worthwhile even if you're not the type to chase views obsessively.

Walkers will get the most from it. It's straightforward terrain, nothing technical, so families with kids of decent walking age will manage fine. Expect forty minutes to an hour for the round trip depending on fitness and how long you linger at the top. The path can be boggy after rain, so decent footwear matters.

What works well is fitting it into a broader park holiday in the area. The Secret Garden Glamping is just down the road, so you could easily make this a morning walk before settling into something slower. It's not the kind of place to build a whole day around, but as part of a longer ramble through the Lancashire countryside it's solid.
