The walk itself isn't technical, but it's a proper hill-walk rather than a casual stroll, taking the best part of three to four hours up and down depending on your pace and which route you fancy.

The appeal is straightforward: genuine Highland views without needing winter climbing gear or ropes. You get moorland terrain, a real sense of elevation, and on the way up the landscape opens out in that satisfying way Scottish hills do. The summit cairn sits high enough that you feel like you've earned it, but low enough that reasonably fit walkers won't spend the day battling steep rock.

History buffs won't find much to linger over here - this is about the walking and the views, full stop. Families with decent walkers aged ten and up would manage it fine, though younger legs might find the return journey a bit much. Spring through autumn works best; winter can be dodgy underfoot.
