Bell's Point

The walk out to Bell's Point from Chathill rewards you with proper coastal views across the Northumberland shoreline. It's a straightforward coastal path that takes you past farmland and dune systems before opening up onto a rocky promontory with decent vistas back towards Beadnell and beyond.

What you're really doing here is getting yourself onto an elevated stretch of coastline that feels genuinely remote despite being accessible. The point itself isn't marked by anything grand - no tower, no monument - just the landscape doing what it does. On a clear day the light off the North Sea is worth the leg work alone. Mudflats, dunes, and that particular Northumberland grey that somehow looks better than anywhere else.

Families with walkers aged eight or upwards will manage fine. It's not a scramble, but neither is it flat. Allow ninety minutes if you're pottering, less if you're purposeful. Go when the tide's out if you can - gives you more of the beach to work with and feels less hemmed in.

With several caravan parks within a couple of kilometres - Beadnell Bay and Seafield among them - it works as a half-day outing during a coastal park holiday. Pair it with a walk south towards Beadnell proper or north towards Embleton. The thing about this stretch is you won't be fighting crowds, which alone makes it worth the drive from Chathill.
