Berrow Sands

Seven miles of uninterrupted sand stretch out before you here, making this one of the longest beaches in Europe. At low tide, Berrow Sands reveals an absolutely massive expanse of firm sand that seems to go on forever - proper kite-flying and long-dog-walk territory.

Families absolutely love this place, and it's easy to see why. The gentle slope means even tiny ones can paddle safely, while older kids have acres of space to burn off energy. Horse riders use the beach regularly too, so don't be surprised to see them cantering past. The sand gets so firm at low tide that you can drive onto parts of it, which feels slightly surreal but rather brilliant.

What sets Berrow apart from other Somerset beaches is the sheer scale of it all. When the tide's out, you'll walk for ages before reaching the water's edge. Some might find this a bit much with small children in tow, but keen walkers will think they've struck gold.
