Binghill stone circle

Five stones stand in a rough circle on moorland west of Milltimber, and that's genuinely all there is to Binghill. No visitor centre, no interpretation board, no gift shop - just you, the Aberdeenshire wind, and a Bronze Age monument that's been here for roughly 4,000 years.

It's the kind of place you either love or skip, depending on your tolerance for remote archaeology with minimal context. The stones themselves aren't dramatic - they're modest, weathered granite blocks scattered across the heather. What matters is the fact they're still standing. Someone arranged them in a circle when Stonehenge was already ancient, and the landscape around them hasn't changed that much since.

Historically minded visitors will find the walk rewarding. Photographers might struggle without better light or dramatic angles. Families with young children could be bored within ten minutes unless they're genuinely interested in standing stones. The real appeal is the solitude and the walk itself through proper Scottish moorland.

Access is free and unrestricted. Allow 30 to 45 minutes including the approach across open ground. There's no car park or facilities - you'll need to pull over on the road and navigate on foot. The terrain is boggy in places, so appropriate footwear matters.
