The top gives you a genuine sense of height without requiring technical kit or nerve. Count on forty minutes up and back, or an hour if you're stopping to pick out landmarks.

The real strength here is convenience. If you're based at Little Acre Holiday Park or The Ashes Caravan Park - both within five kilometres - you can squeeze this in around other plans. It works equally well if you're using Kendal as a launch point for exploring the Lake District proper. The hill fills a gap between the easy riverside strolls and the big mountain days.

There's nothing fancy about it. No visitor centre, no café, no interpretation boards explaining the geology. Just a fell with decent views and a path that goes up then down. That's rather the point. Go early if you can - the views are clearer, and parking near the start is easier.
