Blacknor North

The walk out to Blacknor North rewards you with proper views across Weymouth Bay and towards Portland. It's a straightforward clifftop ramble rather than a dramatic scramble, so most people cope with it without drama. On a clear day you can see right across the water, and the shingle beach below catches the light in that particular way that makes you understand why people bother with Dorset at all.

This is walkers' territory, mainly. History buffs might find the old fortifications interesting enough, but you're not coming here for detailed interpretation panels or anything structured. Bring binoculars if you're into birdwatching - the cliffs attract various species depending on season. The walk takes a good hour or so depending on how long you linger and whether you actually make it all the way to the point itself.

Timing matters. Early morning or late afternoon light is when the views actually sing. Midday is a bit flat, and windy days can make the walk less pleasant than you'd hope. Check the weather forecast before committing.
