Blackpool Central Library

The curved glass frontage on Queen Street catches you off guard - this isn't what you'd expect from a library in Blackpool. Opened in 2011, it's a proper modern building, all light and angles, right in the town centre.

Inside, it's vast. Three floors of books, computers, and study spaces that actually feel designed for humans rather than institutional bureaucracy. The ground floor is where families tend to congregate - children's section is well-stocked and there's enough room for kids to move about without driving librarians to distraction. If you've got teenagers, the teen zone upstairs has actual seating that doesn't look like it belongs in a 1970s waiting room.

Admission is free, which makes it a solid backup plan on a rainy afternoon. You could easily spend two hours here without feeling rushed. The digital collections are decent if you want to download audiobooks or magazines before heading back to the caravan.

Honestly, it's brilliant if you're staying at Haven Cala Gran or Broadwater and fancy a break from the seafront. It's quiet enough that you can actually concentrate, but busy enough that it doesn't feel like you're intruding. The café is passable - nothing special, but the coffee's hot and the Wi-Fi actually works, which counts for something.

Not a headline attraction, but genuinely useful during a Blackpool week. Particularly good if anyone in your party needs to charge devices or escape the drizzle for a couple of hours.
