Families with older children who can handle uneven ground will find it brilliant for adventure walks. Dog owners particularly love the freedom to let their pets run off-lead through the quieter sections. That said, pushchair users should steer clear - the terrain is too rough and rooty.

Expect to spend a good two hours exploring if you're walking at a decent pace. The lack of formal facilities means bringing a flask and snacks is wise, especially in winter when daylight fades fast.
