The woods at Blanches Gorse feel proper tucked away once you're in among the trees, despite being just a few miles outside Nottingham. The paths are manageable, mostly level, and you'll find yourself in genuine woodland rather than a manicured park setting. Walkers will find this worthwhile, especially if you're based at one of the nearby caravan parks like Janson Fishery or Gunthorpe Camping - it's an easy reach for a morning outing. Families with younger kids might get a couple of hours out of it before the novelty wears thin; older children who actually enjoy woodland exploration will have a better time. It's the sort of place you'd combine with other activities rather than make a special trip for.

The main draw is simply that it exists - a bit of uncluttered forest space without the infrastructure of a country estate. No facilities to speak of, so come prepared. Best visited in drier months when the paths aren't churned up. If you're staying at Peacock Lake Glamping or any of the surrounding holiday parks, this is worth a half-day detour, but don't expect dramatic views or marked attractions. It's genuinely quiet woodland, which some people will love and others will find a touch dull.
