Blue Bell Hill Picnic Site

The views from Blue Bell Hill stretch across the Medway Valley and on a clear day you can see all the way to the North Downs. It's a proper vantage point - the sort of place where you actually understand why the Romans built a road through here and why locals have been coming for centuries.

This is straightforward walking territory, not a managed visitor attraction with cafes or facilities. You park up near Aylesford and make your way onto the hill itself. The bluebells in spring are the draw - May's usually peak time, though the display depends entirely on the weather. Outside of that season it's a more general countryside walk with decent views and the kind of peace you don't get near the M20.

Families with older kids will find it rewarding. Younger ones might lose interest once they've covered the initial walk, and the lack of facilities means you need to be self-sufficient. Walkers and history types get more from it - there's Bronze Age burial mounds up here, and the Pilgrims Way passes through.

Give yourself two hours minimum if you want to do the walk properly and actually stand about taking in the views. It's free, which helps. The nearby glamping at Kits Coty is less than half a mile away, making this an obvious morning or late-afternoon detour during a park holiday. Oak View and Badgells Wood are also close enough for a walk-out visit. Weather matters here - rain turns it muddy and pointless. Go when it's dry and clear.
