Bluebell Wood

Late April through May, this woodland near Markethill transforms into something genuinely special. The forest floor erupts in blue - thousands of native bluebells carpeting the ground between the trees, creating those Instagram moments that actually live up to the hype when you're standing there in person.

It's a straightforward walk through mature woodland, nothing strenuous. The bluebells are the main event here, and they're worth timing a visit around. Go midweek if you can - weekends draw crowds, and the magic gets diluted when you're queuing to take photos. Early morning light hits the flowers best, so get there before mid-morning.

Families with young kids will manage the walk fine, though there's not much else to occupy them once the novelty of the flowers wears off - give it a solid hour. Keen photographers and gardeners will spend longer, properly studying the display. It's free to access, which is generous.

It's not a full-day draw on its own, but combined with exploring Markethill proper or other walks in the Armagh area, it slots in nicely.
