This Anglesey wetland celebrates nature in its rawest form, where sphagnum moss creates springy carpets underfoot and cotton grass waves like tiny flags across the landscape. The raised wooden walkway keeps your feet dry while you spot dragonflies, frogs, and the occasional heron that treats this place as its private dining room.

Nature enthusiasts will find plenty to occupy them, though restless children might need bribing with the promise of ice cream in nearby Beaumaris afterwards. The bog supports an impressive array of wildlife - bring binoculars if you're serious about bird watching, as the reed beds attract everything from sedge warblers to the odd bittern.

Allow at least an hour for a proper wander, more if you're the type to stand motionless waiting for that perfect wildlife shot. Early morning visits often yield the best results when the mist still clings to the water and the wildlife hasn't been disturbed by day-trippers.

For families staying at any of the holiday parks around Beaumaris - Tros Y Waen or Kingsbridge are both within easy reach - this makes a decent alternative to yet another beach day. Just don't come expecting formal gardens or cafe facilities. This is bog life, beautifully uncompromising.
