Boston Guildhall

The Guildhall sits right in Boston's town centre, a proper red-brick Georgian building that's been standing watch over the marketplace for centuries. Inside, it's part museum, part civic building - the sort of place that doesn't shout about itself but rewards a good look around.

You'll find exhibits covering Boston's maritime past (the town's connection to the Pilgrims gets a good going-over), local history, and the building itself is worth studying. The courtroom upstairs gives you a genuine sense of how justice was dispensed back in the day. Allow a solid hour, maybe ninety minutes if you're the type to read every label. It's free, which is brilliant, and opens Wednesday to Saturday, 10:30 to 15:30.

Families with older kids will get more from it than toddlers - there's not a soft play area in sight, but school-age children interested in local history or the macabre bits (there's definitely some) will find it engaging. History buffs and genealogy types should budget time here; the Pilgrims connection alone draws the curious.

If you're based at Orchard Holiday Park or Big Sky Hideaway, it's a quick trip into town. Pair it with a wander around Boston's Georgian streets and the Stump (St Botolph's Church - that tower is hard to miss). The Guildhall doesn't demand a half-day commitment, which makes it ideal for filling a rainy afternoon or slotting between other activities.
