Bratlands

The woodland around Bratlands is proper dense - tall pines creating a cathedral-like canopy that blocks out most of the sky on even the brightest days. It's the kind of forest that feels genuinely removed from the surrounding Lincolnshire flatlands, which makes the whole experience feel a bit more wild than you'd expect this far east.

Walking through here you'll find yourself on decent paths that wind between the trees, though it can get boggy in patches, especially after rain. The quiet is the main thing - birdsong, wind in the branches, the crunch of needles underfoot. No crowds, no gift shops, just you and the woodland.

It's worth the detour if you're into proper walks rather than tourist attractions. Families with young kids will get maybe an hour out of it before the novelty wears thin - it's beautiful but it's still a forest, not a playground. Anyone who enjoys woodland rambles or wants somewhere to clear their head will find it excellent. Allow a couple of hours to make the most of it.

Market Rasen sits just a few miles south, which makes this accessible from the town. If you're based at Wolds View Country Park nearby, it's an easy morning or afternoon excursion. Go early if you can - you'll have the place to yourself, and the light through the trees is better before midday. Don't expect facilities or signage - come prepared with a decent map and sturdy boots.
