Broadwood

Broadwood is a proper forest walk just outside Maybole, the sort of place locals know and tourists often miss. You're walking through mixed woodland - mostly conifers with some broadleaf trees scattered in - and the paths are well-maintained enough that you won't spend the afternoon fighting through bracken. The canopy gets thick in places, which means it's genuinely cool even on warm days. Allow an hour or so for a decent loop, maybe ninety minutes if you fancy exploring the quieter trails that branch off.

It's ideal for families with kids old enough to manage uneven ground without complaint, and walkers wanting something low-stress between more serious hikes. History buffs won't find much here - it's simply a working forest - but that's rather the point. No interpretive boards, no gift shop, just trees and paths and the occasional bird noise.

The real advantage is proximity to Freedom Fields Glamping just down the road. If you're based there, Broadwood gives you a morning walk without driving anywhere, which matters when you're meant to be switching off. The forest feels properly separate from Maybole's traffic, despite being barely outside town. Come in autumn when the colours actually show through the conifers, or in spring when the mud's not quite so demanding. Midweek is quieter than weekends, though honestly, you're unlikely to be rubbing shoulders with crowds either way.
