About Brock Knowe
This is walkers' terrain, really. The peak itself is modest by Scottish standards, nothing dramatic, but it's the kind of place where you feel like you've actually gone somewhere rather than just wandered round a car park. On a clear day you can pick out landmarks for miles, and the moorland around the summit gives you that open-sky feeling that keeps people coming back to the Lowlands.
You'll want proper boots - the ground can be boggy in patches - and allow a good two hours if you're not particularly swift. Don't expect crowds. This isn't Ben Nevis. If you're stopping near Lanark anyway, perhaps staying at Ecosse Glamping just down the road, it's a solid morning out. Families with older kids who don't mind a bit of mud will manage fine. Younger ones might find it dull unless they're already keen walkers.
Timing-wise, spring and autumn are best - summer can be midgy, and winter means you'll need to watch your footing. Free to access, naturally, being a Lowlands peak rather than anything managed or developed.
