The building itself tells you something about 19th-century Devon: functional rather than showy, built for a working community. Realistically, you're not talking about a lengthy stop - twenty minutes to half an hour to wander through and get a sense of the place. What works best is combining it with the broader Ilfracombe area. The town itself has proper beaches, decent fish and chips, and the seafront attractions that make North Devon coast holidays tick. If you're based at Bay View Farmers or one of the Woolacombe parks, you're within easy reach for an afternoon potter. Children will likely find it dull unless they're genuinely keen on churches, but for adults with an interest in local history or Victorian architecture, it's a legitimate five-minute detour. Just don't expect opening hours to be prominently advertised - you may need to knock and ask, or check locally when you arrive.
