Browfoot Farm, Selside

There's not much left to Browfoot Farm these days - just stone walls and the ghost of what once was a proper working fell farm on the slopes above Selside. The ruins sit at a decent altitude where you can actually breathe in the Pennine air without the crowds you'd find at some other Lake District spots. Shepherds and fell farmers built their lives around these hills, and wandering past the crumbling walls gives you a real sense of how hard that graft was. The site itself won't detain you for hours - twenty minutes to half an hour if you're thorough - but it's a worthwhile detour on a fell walk rather than a destination in its own right.

Historically minded types will appreciate what's here; kids might find it a bit abstract - there's no interpretation board, no gift shop, no drama. Just the bones of a building and some perspective on upland life. The nearest settlement of any size is Cumbria itself, though Selside is the actual village name to use if you're asking locals for directions.

If you're based at Two Acre Glamping Pods just down the road, this is genuinely easy reach for a morning ramble. Pair it with a longer walk through the surrounding fells and it slots in nicely. The access is free, obviously - it's old stones on a hillside. Best visited on a clear day when the views actually justify the climb. Winter can be bleak and the paths get boggy; autumn's your sweet spot.
