Brown's Coppice

Brown's Coppice sits quietly on the edge of Coventry's sprawl, the sort of woodland you stumble upon rather than plan a day around. It's a proper working forest - managed coppice woodland with all the layers you'd expect: dense understory, mature standards, the whole lot. Walking through it feels genuinely removed from the city, which is the whole point really.

The paths are decent enough if you're not expecting anything manicured. Ancient coppicing techniques mean the woodland structure is interesting from a forestry perspective, but if you're just after a nice walk, you'll appreciate the shade and the lack of crowds more than the botanical specifics. It's the kind of place where you might actually see wildlife - birds especially - rather than queuing behind fifty other visitors with cameras.

Walkers will get the most from it. Bring proper boots in winter because it gets muddy. The site doesn't seem to have formal visitor facilities, so this isn't a destination attraction where you spend three hours and grab a café tea afterwards. You're looking at an hour or two wandering the woodland, depending on how lost you want to get.

If you're based at Somers Wood Caravan Park or Gate Farm Caravan Club CL - both solid options within six miles - Brown's Coppice makes a decent leg-stretch break. It's free and unstructured, which some find brilliant and others find a bit thin on actual things to do. Not everyone's cup of tea, but nature types who prefer real woodland to visitor attractions will rate it.
