Bull gallery sits right in Builth Wells, a town that doesn't exactly scream 'art destination' until you stumble across this place. It's a contemporary art space that punches above its weight for somewhere so far from the beaten track in Mid Wales. The gallery shows rotating exhibitions of mostly Welsh and UK artists - painting, sculpture, installation work - the sort of thing that makes you think differently about what you're looking at rather than just nodding along politely.

It's the kind of spot that works best if you've got a genuine interest in art rather than just needing something to do on a wet afternoon. You'll probably spend 45 minutes to an hour here depending on what's on and how much you like to read the wall text. Real art types will find it worthwhile; families with restless kids might find it a bit of a slog.

Builth Wells itself has a pleasant enough town centre for a wander and a decent pub or two, so you could bundle this in with other bits. The nearby camping spots like Penmaenau Farm and Celtic Woodland are barely a kilometre away, making it an easy pit stop if you're based in the area. Fforest Fields and the others are within easy reach too. Free admission would make it a proper no-brainer, but I'd suggest checking before you visit - opening hours and admission fees aren't consistent across the board. Ring ahead rather than making the journey only to find it's closed.
