Bulls Wood

A proper Suffolk wood that actually delivers on what a woodland walk should be. Bulls Wood sits east of Bury Saint Edmunds, and it's the sort of place locals have known about for years while visitors drive straight past without realising what they're missing.

The wood itself is genuinely lovely - ancient woodland with decent paths winding through beech and oak, the kind of spot where you can actually hear yourself think. There's a real sense of walking through something old here, not some manicured country estate affair. The paths are well-maintained but feel wild enough to keep things interesting.

It's ideal for families who want more than an hour of exercise but less than a full-day expedition. Kids won't get bored if the ground is dry, though it does get muddy after rain - proper muddy, the kind where wellies become non-negotiable. Serious walkers will appreciate the quietness and the genuine woodland atmosphere, though it's not dramatic scenery in the Cotswolds sense.

Allow 90 minutes to two hours for a proper explore. There's no visitor centre or facilities that I could find, so bring what you need. It's free, which is just right for what it is.
