Bure Park Nature Reserve

The wetland walks at Bure Park Nature Reserve, just outside Bicester, are genuinely worth the detour if you've got an afternoon to kill and enjoy spotting birds without the crowds. It's a proper nature reserve - think reed beds, open water, and the kind of quiet that makes you realise how little of it you get elsewhere. You'll see kingfishers if you're lucky, plus the usual suspects: herons, mallards, the odd heron doing its patient hunting thing.

The reserve appeals most to birdwatchers and anyone after a gentle walk away from the main tourist trail. It's free to access and you can easily spend two to three hours here without feeling rushed, though an hour is enough if you're just after a quick leg-stretch.
