Burlorne Pillow

The walk up Burlorne Pillow rewards you with views across the Cornish landscape that stretch for miles on a clear day. It's a modest peak by serious standards - you're not talking Alpine drama here - but the moorland approach and open vistas make it worth the effort from nearby Egloshayle.

What you get is proper Bodmin country. Rolling moorland, granite outcrops, and that peculiar Cornish light that makes everything look slightly sharper than it should. The summit itself is a bit rocky and windswept, which is exactly as it should be. On days when the weather cooperates, you can see across to other peaks and down toward the coast.

Walkers will get the most from this one. It's not a technical scramble, but it's a genuine walk rather than a gentle stroll - allow a couple of hours round trip if you're taking it at a sensible pace. Families with older kids who don't mind climbing will manage fine. Younger children might find it a slog without proper incentive.

If you're based at one of the camping parks nearby - Mena Farm and The Laurels are both close - this makes a good morning walk before settling into park life. It's the sort of spot that clears your head without consuming your whole day. Free to walk, obviously. Go when the wind isn't howling directly at you, which in Cornwall means checking the forecast like your life depends on it.
