Bushyleaze Copse

A proper woodland walk through Oxfordshire's Bushyleaze Copse offers that rare thing - genuine peace without needing to navigate through tourist crowds. The trees here are thick and established, with paths that wind through mixed woodland where you'll spot beech, oak, and hazel if you know what you're looking at. It's the sort of place you go to clear your head rather than tick off a landmark.

Walkers get the most from this one. The terrain isn't punishing, but you'll want proper footwear after rain - it can get boggy underfoot. An hour's amble is easily done, though there's nothing stopping you lingering longer if you just want to sit on a log and listen. It's not flashy or particularly dramatic, which is rather the point.

Lying just outside Fairford, it works perfectly as a half-day break from a caravan-based holiday at Burford Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite, which sits about five miles away. Far enough to feel like a proper outing, close enough to pop back for lunch. Families with older kids who can manage an uneven path will be fine, though younger ones might find it a bit samey after twenty minutes - there are no play facilities or visitor centres here.

Free access as far as I can tell, no facilities to speak of. Go early or late to avoid the handful of locals who use it regularly. Best in autumn when the light through the leaves is properly golden.
