Cabilla and Redrice Woods CWT Reserve

Walking into Cabilla and Redrice Woods, you're immediately struck by how quiet it is. No gift shop, no visitor centre, no crowds - just proper woodland with a stream running through it and the kind of peace that makes you remember why you came to Cornwall in the first place.

It's a Cornwall Wildlife Trust reserve, which means it's been left to do what woodlands do best: harbour wildlife, offer shelter to birds, and generally exist without too much fussing about. The walk itself meanders alongside Redrice Stream, where you might spot a kingfisher if you're lucky and patient. The woodland floor changes with the seasons - in spring it's alive with bluebells, by autumn you're wading through leaves.

This isn't a destination that'll take up your whole morning. An hour here, maybe ninety minutes if you dawdle, is enough to work out the main paths and breathe in the damp woodland air. It's free to visit and rewards the kind of visitor who likes to move slowly, listen, and actually look at things. Kids will get something out of it - the stream always holds their attention - but it's not a playground replacement.

If you're based at Eden Valley Holiday Park or Mena Farm, both within easy reach, this makes a cracking afternoon detour when the weather's decent. Pair it with a walk around Bodmin Moor nearby for a fuller day out. The real value here isn't in seeing something spectacular; it's in remembering that the best bits of Cornwall don't need signposts or entrance fees.
