Cabin Hill

The walk up Cabin Hill from Clitheroe takes you through proper Lancashire moorland, climbing steadily until you break out onto open ground with views that stretch across to Pendle Hill on a clear day. It's not a massive peak - you're looking at around an hour up, maybe a bit less if you're fit - but it's worth doing if you're based at one of the caravan parks nearby.

The summit itself is fairly modest. There's not much up there beyond the views and a bit of grass, so don't expect a café or any facilities. What you get is the walk itself: bracken and heather underfoot, the quiet of the moors, and proper vistas across the Ribble Valley when the weather plays ball. On a grey day it's considerably less thrilling, so pick your moment.

Walkers will get the most from this one. Families with young kids might find the climb a slog for the payoff, and you won't spend long at the top. If you're staying at Cross Lane Caravan Park just two miles away, or one of the other sites clustered around Clitheroe, it makes a decent afternoon outing. Combine it with a walk around Clitheroe itself or a visit to Pendle Hill if you want to make a proper day of the area.

Free, obviously, and accessible year-round, though winter rain can turn the path into a muddy stream. Bring proper boots.
