Cadney Reservoir

Water stretched out flat and wide under a grey Lincolnshire sky, with nothing but fields and the occasional copse breaking the horizon. That's Cadney Reservoir - a proper working water body that sits just outside Market Rasen, doing its job without much fuss or fanfare. It's the sort of place locals know about, and visitors stumble upon if they're caravan-based in the area and fancy a walk without driving far.

The reservoir itself is decent for a gentle circuit walk. The water's clean enough, the paths are manageable, and on a decent day you get decent views across to the Lincolnshire Wolds. It's not dramatic or showy - there's no visitor centre, no car park with facilities, no concessions stand. What you get is quiet. Birdwatchers come here regularly, especially in winter when the waterfowl populations swell. If you're into that sort of thing, bring binoculars and patience.

Families with young kids might find an hour enough before restlessness sets in. Serious walkers will appreciate it as a straightforward loop rather than a destination in itself. It works well as a break from caravan life if you're staying at Station Farm or North Gulham Glamping nearby - close enough that you won't spend half your morning driving.

Allow an hour for a leisurely walk. Free to access. Go early morning or late afternoon when the light's better and the place feels less exposed. Worth it if you're in the area; don't plan a special trip.
