Campbell Park - Canal

The canal at Campbell Park cuts through Milton Keynes like a proper ribbon of calm in the middle of all that new-town bustle. It's a nature reserve, which means you've got water, towpaths, and genuinely decent wildlife spotting if you know when to look. Kingfishers turn up here, herons too, and the banks are thick with reeds and wildflowers depending on the season. You can walk the full length - takes about forty minutes at a leisurely pace - or just potter about for an hour with binoculars.

It's brilliant for families with young kids. The towpath is flat and pushchair-friendly, and there's something hypnotic about watching ducks and the occasional narrowboat slide past. Walkers will appreciate it as a proper escape route from the surrounding developments, though it's never going to feel wild or remote. For serious birdwatchers and nature types, spring and early autumn are your best bets when migration patterns bring in rarer visitors.

The whole thing is free and accessible from various points around the park. No opening hours to worry about. If you're camped at Gullivers or Adventurer's Village - both right on the doorstep - this is your daily walk sorted. Longer stays would give you time to explore the wider Milton Keynes park network and catch the canal at different times of day. Morning light on the water is genuinely worth the early start.
