Cartref Dylan Thomas - Dylan Thomas Boathouse

Perched on the mudflats where the River Tâf meets the sea, this weatherboard cottage looks exactly as it did when Dylan Thomas penned some of his most famous works here in the 1950s. The boathouse serves as both his former writing retreat and now a small museum dedicated to Wales' most celebrated poet.

Inside, you'll find Thomas's original writing shed - a tiny wooden hut where he crafted works like 'Under Milk Wood' while gazing out at the estuary. The main house displays manuscripts, photographs and personal effects, though it's quite compact so don't expect to spend more than an hour here. Poetry enthusiasts will be in their element, but those unfamiliar with Thomas's work might find it a bit niche.

From Carmarthen, it's a lovely drive through the Carmarthenshire countryside to reach this literary shrine. The location itself is rather special - the views across the water towards the Gower Peninsula are properly stunning, and you can walk along the coastal path afterwards.
