Catt's Wood

A proper Suffolk woodland that doesn't pretend to be anything grander than it is. Catt's Wood sits east of Wickham Market and offers the sort of walk you can do without needing to check a map or book tickets in advance. The forest floor is thick with leaf litter, the canopy does its job blocking out the worst of the weather, and there's genuine quiet here - the sort that makes you realise how rare that is.

It's not dramatic. There are no waterfalls, no viewpoints that make you gasp, no visitor centre with a shop flogging overpriced flapjacks. What you get instead is a chance to actually walk through woodland without bumping into crowds. That appeals to families who want their kids to burn energy without the theme-park atmosphere, and to walkers after something genuine rather than a trophy Instagram spot.

The trees are mixed enough to feel like a proper woodland rather than a conifer plantation. Paths wind through without too much faffing about. You can do a decent circuit in under an hour, or potter about for longer if the mood takes you. Free access and no fiddling with opening hours are rare bonuses these days.
