Cefn Hepreas

The walk up Cefn Hepreas rewards you with one of those sweeping views across the Shropshire Hills that makes you forget how many steps you've climbed. It's a proper hill rather than a mountain - around 1,600 feet - but the climb from Knighton is a genuine effort, especially if you take the direct route. On a clear day, the panorama stretches across the borderlands with the Radnor Forest visible to the west. The peak itself is fairly bare moorland, so weather matters more than it might elsewhere. Wind can be fierce up here, and in low cloud you'll see roughly nothing.

Walkers will get the most from it. The local paths are well-marked if you know where to start, though signage isn't always obvious in Knighton itself. Plan for a solid two to three hours return depending on fitness and your exact starting point. It's free, obviously - it's a hill - and there's no visitor infrastructure at the top, so bring water and don't expect shelter.

The location works well for a holiday at any of the nearby glamping sites - Black Hall Lodges is barely twenty minutes away, Offa's Pitch and Wild Valley both closer still. You could pair it with walks along Offa's Dyke itself, which runs nearby. It's not a destination if you're looking for easy strolls and tea shops, but if you want real hill walking without travelling to Wales proper, this delivers.
