A woodland walk near Kidwelly that actually delivers on the promise of a proper nature reserve. Centenary Wood sits inland from the coastal sprawl, and it's the sort of place where you'll spot woodland birds and pick out different tree species without needing to be a naturalist. The trails meander through mixed woodland - oak, ash, and conifers all competing for space - and it feels genuinely quiet, which is rarer than you'd think in South Wales.

The reserve works best for walkers and anyone who just wants a couple of hours in the trees without faffing about with visitor centres or entry fees. Families with primary-age kids will find it manageable, though it's not the sort of place with waymarked loops or interpretation boards holding hands the whole way. You need to be comfortable navigating by instinct. Allow 90 minutes to two hours depending on how far you fancy going.

What makes it worthwhile is that it slots perfectly into a park holiday in the area. Pembrey Country Park Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite is less than five miles away, and you can knock this walk out before hitting the beach or tackling the heritage railway in Kidwelly itself. It's not a destination in itself - don't come this far just for the wood - but if you're based in one of the caravan parks, it's a solid morning's walk that feels away from it all despite being minutes from civilisation.
