Chough Rock

You'll find Chough Rock jutting out from the Cornish coast near Looe, a striking sea stack that's become something of a landmark for anyone walking the coastal path around here. It's not a massive detour if you're already in the area, but it's the sort of thing that works better as part of a longer clifftop walk than as a destination in itself. The rock itself is fairly straightforward - you can see it clearly from the path, and on a decent day the views across Looe Bay are proper lovely. The name comes from the red-billed choughs that used to nest in these cliffs, though spotting one now would be a genuine treat.

This is really a walkers' thing. You're not climbing anything or doing anything strenuous, just working it into a coastal ramble. An hour or so is plenty of time if you're combining it with the surrounding clifftop routes. Families with younger kids might find it a bit underwhelming on its own - it's a rock, after all - but as part of a wider walk along the cliffs it's worth noting.

The nearest proper base is Looe itself, a lively fishing town with beaches and plenty of accommodation. The real appeal is the walk itself and the wider coastline around here.
