Claydon Planks

A handful of weathered wooden planks crossing a stream in the middle of Buckinghamshire farmland - that's Claydon Planks. Not exactly the sort of place you'd plan a day around, but if you're staying at Embers Camping nearby, it's worth knowing about as a quick leg-stretch from your caravan or tent.

The planks themselves are a bit underwhelming if I'm honest. They're old, they're simple, they span a small watercourse, and that's genuinely it. There's no visitor centre, no interpretive boards explaining their history, no café. You park up somewhere sensible, walk across them (mind you don't slip on wet wood), and you're done within ten minutes. The surrounding countryside is pleasant enough - proper English fields and hedgerows - but nothing that'll stop you in your tracks.

The real appeal here is that it's accessible from Buckingham without much fuss, and Embers Camping sits just a mile and a half away, making this a handy distraction if the kids need five minutes away from the campsite. Walkers passing through the area might include it in a longer route, though you'd need to plan that carefully since there's limited information about public rights of way nearby.

If you're touring Buckinghamshire's rural attractions, it's fine. If you've got a spare afternoon and you're based at Embers, fair enough. But don't rearrange your itinerary for it. Go because you're already in the area, not because Claydon Planks itself warrants the detour.
